I don't like to think about how old I am. Even worse, I don't like thinking about how old the kids are all getting.
In all honesty, though, I look forward to growing older. I look forward to seeing these children grow hopefully into mature, productive adults. I look forward to the future.
I don't want it to go by any faster than it already is, but I do look forward to it, nonetheless.
MR.FF is not in the same boat on this topic. Sure he can see that life will be nice together, but he's not ready for the kids to be older. Onion is entering 8th grade, Burger is entering 3rd...Mr.FF is not handling it gracefully. He's already panicked for Onion to be in high school NEXT YEAR.
I have those moments as well. My buggy girl is in 5th grade this year. Our schools have elementary k-4, Intermediate 5-6, Middle School 7-8, then on to the High School for 9-12. Last school year was the last school year that Buggy and Bubba will ever be in the same school together until they reach the High School.
Yes, that makes my heart sink a little.
BUT....then I think about taking one day at a time, we have still many years of kids in our houses. I truly look forward to the day they are grown. On their own, making a life for themselves...eventually meeting their partners in life, marrying and having families. That is what life is, a full circle, I for one can't wait to watch it all unfold.
I am more than THRILLED to have found Mr.FF. He is someone that only HELPS the future for me look bright. With him and I together, I know that no matter what comes along we will rock out.
I understand about getting older. And seeing your children change from year to year is also something that must be exciting but bittersweet. Joanie Mitchell's song the Circle Game comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteI get what you're saying, but talk to me in five years... :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be 40 in less than two weeks. I've been thinking A LOT about getting older. It kind of sucks.
ReplyDeleteI have come to realize that it's not the age, it's the mileage. I try my best to cheat death every day. I think young. I act young. I appreciate every second I am given. (That's 86,400 of them a day folks). So this is a lot of appreciation.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of whether you are 8 or 80. Always do your best to keep a smile on your face.
There are moments when I wish my kids were little again, but I really enjoy them more as they grow older. And I like how they are turning out too. So, while it is hard to see them leave the grade school, I can tell you that the high school years are fun too! I love going to football and basketball games and they like that we go and are involved as well. The other kids are great and we have fun just talking to them.
ReplyDeleteThen there is the whole "they can drive now" thing--which makes you heart skip a beat, but it is nice to have a few hours to yourself now and then.
With one nearing the end of high school and one already in college, I can tell you that it all goes too fast. But what lies ahead is nice too. Don't spend your days wishing they were little--go enjoy the future with them!
Damn, I sound like 'effin Pollyanna. Sorry.
